My mom has always counted herself among the "unmusical," and my dad can tune a guitar, play some by ear, and tends to listen to music a little more than my mom, but that is where the "musicality" in our house ends. Luckily, despite these facts, most of my siblings and I love music. While so far there doesn't seem to be much talent in the family, we all love to listen to a variety of music, and most of us enjoy singing if nothing else. However, a lack of music in households is becoming all too familiar. The author of this book is striving to combat this common situation. In her book, she talks first of all about the importance of music. Music is a gift from God that benefits people of all ages.
The book is divided into sections entitled Music and Your Family, Musical Development and Training, and Music In Our World. Throughout these chapters, advice is given on musical development, learning to make music, music games and activities, different music styles, and music in our spiritual lives. Learn how to enjoy music, develop a love for music in your children, and incorporate music into your lives so you can reap the joy and benefits.
The book even includes a "Classics Month by Month" chapter that offers a full year of music curriculum. This includes a short history of various composers, pieces to listen to, related materials, appropriate vocabulary, suggested activities, and a short quiz. If you want to encourage a love for music in your children and whole family, this is a great resource to help you in your ambition. - Melissa
